Icicles on a gray day

They look so different in another kind of light but it's the same window and the same icicles.

Just a different angle.

Icicles

One of the more lovely forms of water - icicles, especially when they gleam in the sun.

Watery Wednesday is full of wonderful shots of water in all its forms.

Drops

Before the freezing temperatures and snow storms, there was water dripping off the roof on to the trash can.  I managed to get an "action" shot of the drop hitting the top of the can.  You can click on any of my pictures, but it's really worth clicking on this one....if you are excited by drops of water hitting trash can lids.

There are more fascinating pictures of water in its infinite forms at Watery Wednesday.

Snow and cold, cold and snow

"If not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled."--P.G. Wodehouse

We have had two days of steady snow, cold and gray skies.  I am not gruntled.

I know it's really pretty and lots of people like snow but the transition from fall to winter seems to bring more aches and pains every year.  OK, so a little tiny piece of blue peeked out before the sun set today.  And I do love my wood fire.  I'm trying to change my disgruntled attitude!

There might be unfrozen waters elsewhere on the planet but it ain't here.  Take a look at Watery Wednesday to see some fluid forms of water, and maybe a few more snow shots too.

Water falls

Thanks to all for the "Cool Mom" kudos from the previous post.  The comments just cracked me up.  And yes, I did pay for that experience, in more ways than one.

Part of our trip also included visiting parts of Alabama.  Here is a wonderful waterfall we hiked to see.  Sorry, Betsy, I can't remember exactly where it is but I think you'll appreciate its beauty.

Boogie on down

Joni, my sister, likes to boogie board and she was happy to have someone hang at the beach with her.  I was content to watch.

She was very happy I got the first pictures ever of her doing this too.

There are more water-laden pictures posted at Watery Wednesday if you'd like to take a peek.

Ventura and camera chips

OK, I'm back from a great trip to Ventura, California.  I visited my sister and her husband.  They have a lovely condo ten minutes from the beach.  Joni and I spent a lot of time at the beach.  She got in the water with her wet suit, I didn't.  We cruised downtown Ventura on Saturday during their Art Walk.  I took close to 500 pictures and experimented with the lighting and settings because it's so different from our alpine desert.  I downloaded my pictures on her computer which was a very good thing because when I got home and put my chip into the reader, guess what???  NO PICTURES!  My husband who is very good with electronics couldn't find them either.  So I made a call and Joni will be sending a CD with my jpegs on them.  To get me started she emailed me some of my pictures.  So although there are benefits to our electronic universe, there are drawbacks as well.  If anyone can explain to me what is in a chip that goes bad, I'd be interested.

As a side note, I left hot and sunny weather and arrived to snow, wind and cold.  Gotta love it all I suppose but sometimes I don't.

A rooftop view on my first day there.

Lots of surfers were out enjoying the water.

Surfers (disguised as little ants) are out in the water (click to enlarge).

We made a new friend.

I ran down to the beach one evening to get sunset shots too.

Thanks to my sister for helping me get started, lots more pictures will be posted when they are available.

And if you like watery shots, check here for more!

Unknown girl

This little girl was having fun feeding the fish and duck at the Botanical Garden in Arlington, Texas.  It's dark and damp in Utah today but I don't have any pictures to show for it yet.

See Watery Wednesday for more wet posts.

Ely Creek Waterfall

Unlike Guy in Regina (who has a beautiful lake to take wonderful pictures of daily it seems), those of us who live in the alpine desert have to search a little harder for a water theme.  I've posted some Brown's Hole pictures in the past.  There's a fish hatchery and a lovely four mile trail down to the Green River with great fishing along the way.  If you veer off at about two miles and head up you will find a delightful little waterfall.

For an interesting variety of pictures with a water theme, check out Watery Wednesday.

Like a duck to water

About an hour's drive north of Vernal there is a place called Red Canyon. It overlooks Flaming Gorge and is quite spectacular. Before you arrive at the canyon, there is a lodge with a small lake that is home to lots of well fed ducks. We went up there over the weekend for lunch and enjoyed a brief watery interlude.

To answer ewok1993's question from my previous post....

....Hunter got to wade in and get the boat!

(I had a feeling I should have added this last picture to the post. Thanks for the question!)

Remote boating

My nephew Steven, dad to two boys, still likes to play with his toys. He brought his boat for fun.

River Otter

The thumbnails look dark, but if you click on the pictures you can see the river otter eating a freshly caught fish.

I'm not always around water in my alpine desert home but there is a lot of water in Yellowstone National Park. For more watery vistas, check out Watery Wednesday.
