Almost a decade in 3 pictures

This is a black and white version (scanned dust mites included) of a sunset in Costa Rica over the Nicoya Gulf in December 2000.

There have been a lot of blogs this week focused retrospectively on the year 2009.  Last night I started thinking about not just the last year but the last ten years.  Where did the decade go? At first thought it seemed like everything went speeding by until I looked at pictures of my kids ten years ago and then it seemed like a long time ago.  I think time is like a rubber band, it stretches and snaps.  

Anyway, the room where my pictures are stored is a total disaster and I can't find anything in it.  Note to self:  clean up the mess in 2010 and get yourself organized!  

In response to my total lack of organization, I randomly picked a picture. My daughter and I took a trip to New York City in 2005.  The sky in the city is very narrow.

Monet is famous for painting haystacks at different times of day.  I am becoming fascinated by endless versions of icicles in all forms of light.

What I am noticing about my pictures over the last ten years is that since I started blogging I now pay much more attention to composition and light and sky.  I am very grateful to the blogging world and my new friends in it for inspiring me to become more creative.  Here's to another year of beautiful blogging. It's a cloudy sky with interesting lines in this shot.  I didn't notice the jet stream until I got the picture on the computer.  I was focusing on the sun and icicles together.

Red Mountain before it turned white.  This photo was taken in the fall after our woodpile was newly stacked.  We have gone through a couple of rows already with the cold and snow of the last two months.

Before the freezing temperatures and snow storms, there was water dripping off the roof on to the trash can.  I managed to get an "action" shot of the drop hitting the top of the can.  You can click on any of my pictures, but it's really worth clicking on this one....if you are excited by drops of water hitting trash can lids.

Strawberry in winter

Last week I had to drive to Provo for my monthly work training.  I lucked out and traveled between snow storms.  There's a stretch that is often treacherous between here and there but the roads were clear. On the way home I stopped to take a picture of Strawberry Reservoir.  It's starting to ice over and is a popular place for crazy people who like to ice fish in the winter.

My apologies to My World blogging friends for lack of comments lately and few posts--I can't keep up with my life and Christmas at the same time!

We have had two days of steady snow, cold and gray skies.  I am not gruntled.

I know it's really pretty and lots of people like snow but the transition from fall to winter seems to bring more aches and pains every year.  OK, so a little tiny piece of blue peeked out before the sun set today.  And I do love my wood fire.  I'm trying to change my disgruntled attitude!

It's cold out there!

Early this morning I should have been getting ready to go to work, but I also needed something for Sky Watch.  Hmmm, I couldn't find anything in Aperture.  I haven't been taking a lot of pictures lately.  So I looked outside my window and there was a pretty sunrise cloud.

And then, oh look!  The sun was shining on my neighbor's house.

Still inside the house, from another window,  I could see further to the west that the the sun lit up Sawtooth Mountain.

Oh, the moon was still up too!  I went outside to take this picture and it was 7 degrees (-13.8C)!  It was cold this morning.

I took one more shot through the trees and ran back inside where it's warm.

I am so incredibly grateful to live in such a beautiful place, surrounded by nature, where it is always magnificent to behold, even when it's cold.
