Windhorse Farm

Reality is what you think it is.
        Curt's Bumpersticker

My friend Curt and his wife Jean raise quarterhorses on
Windhorse Farm.  Curt is also a practicing Buddhist who allows me to come and meditate with him in his yurt on Wednesday mornings.
We talk and meditate and talk some more.  He is my "uncle"
who helps me learn, a warm and gentle person.  Brenda comes to meditate too, we have a small class.

On Wednesday morning we had blissfully blue sky.  Last week there were three mares ready to foal  in the barn.   On the way out to the yurt I couldn't help but sneak a peak.  It was so exciting to see the new colt, born the night before.

After our session I got out my camera and started snapping shots of the place.

It's a local sign of spring when cows and sheep and horses have babies!

Farms usually include interesting old buildings and odd pieces of equipment.

The mare was protective of her colt and didn't really appreciate the by-standers admiring her baby so it was a bit challenging to get decent shots of them moving around.  At least the light was good.

She is beautiful!

The little guy was wobbly but managed pretty well for being so new and having such long legs.  He will grow up to be quite handsome.

Maybe next week there will be another new birth in the neighborhood.

These are great captures of rather elusive models. The Mama is protective of her precious son, so cute. Hope to see more of this pair, and maybe more.

Marvelous post, Loran! Many years ago when my kids were growing up we had two wonderful horses, a mare, and a young Arabian. It's one of those wonderful memories that your pics brought back so vividly! Thank you! Hope you have a wonderful day!

Great shots. I love to see colts with their moms. Farms in general are great places to hang out at, until the work starts.

I love the mare and her colt! What a cute baby coat he has! I wonder what he'll look like when he grows up? His dam is awesome!

His legs seem too long for his body, no wonder he is wobbly, he has to learn to balance on those things.

Hi Loran, Life must be good for the folks at Windhorse Farm... Curt must be an amazing person. No matter what your religion---meditation is so important for ALL of us. AND-seeing those babies just made me smile. Spring is NEW life --in so many ways.
Hugs,
Betsy
