In Tofino we signed up for a bear watching trip on a Zodiac boat. We took a chance and it was so worth it! There are many islands and passages to get lost in.
We wore big red suits for insulation because it was cold on the water. Life vests were built into them.
The fog and the water played on each other in so many mystical ways.
And then we saw the bears! We could hear them crunching on fresh crabs and watch them pull rocks aside as they searched for food. Because we were in the boats we were able to get very close, unfortunately, I didn't have my zoom lens with me. The boatman cut the engine and let us stay for a long time.
He said it was unusual for there to be two bears at once. Usually they are solitary. He thought perhaps there was a little courting going on here as they chased each other around.
We also saw a porpoise, an eagle and sea lions. Seeing wildlife in their habitat is one of my most favorite experiences in life.
There are so many Scenic Sunday places to see.

It looks cold and breathtaking. Would be nice to have a fur coat like those bears.
The are amazing... The mist and the overall setting looks surreal...
Have a nice day:)
Loran, we used to wear those float suits some days when I cruised timber in SE Alaska, if we were in and out of a boat a lot during the day. I was usually the only woman in the group, and it took a reaallly long time for a bathroom break in the woods wearing that thing!
alway, nice with wildlife in their own environment, must have been a great trip
I love Tofino. We went whale-watching there onceuponatime.
Great trip, well done!

How exciting! I've never seen a bear in its own habitat. Glad you had such a great time seeing all that marvelous wildlife.
It must have been a real treat to see the bears in their natural habitat up close like that.
I really like your pictures of the mountains and fog as well.
Imagine hearing the crunching on crabs! I didn't realise bears ate those.
You had great wildlife sightings. Glad you saw some bears in action.
I may be able to get to the N.W. a little sooner if I show this post to my wife.. She is a true bear lover
Ooooh! I love the misty water pictures. They look like a fantasy setting. And that's so cool that you got to sit and observe bears. The sea lions, porpoise and eagle must have been fun to see also.
Nice photographs Loran. Hope I can be able to get there by this month and experience some bear viewing adventure.
Great pics. Would you be interested in doing a guest post on tofino-info.com? We are trying to get more stories and adventures about tofino. If so please contact me through the website!
