Mental Health Month Blog Party

There is a history of mental illness in my family, primarily depression.  I have suffered through bouts of it, been treated with medication, and ultimately learned to cope by changing my life in a number of ways.  Feeling depressed is not a party but recovery is worth celebrating.

How did I do it?  I learned to implement a set of skills that helped me stay mentally healthy.  I started taking responsibility for my life and my choices then quit blaming others for my problems.  I explored many spiritual paths, eventually discovering what works best for me.  I try to exercise regularly, eat well and get plenty of sleep.  I write in a journal and take pictures to express what's inside me.  I meditate and practice mindfulness.  I practice lovingkindness by helping other people.  I keep learning and growing.

Of course I still have down days and don't always do what I need to do, but I view my path as a spiral journey, ever evolving.

How about you?

Getting sunshine helps; getting out helps; coffee helps, especially with someone who feels like talking, too.

Your methods all sound like good ones. A spiral journey, ever evolving, is a good description of going through life open to new experiences and ideas.

The path you've chosen to follow is most definitely a prescription for a healthy, happy life, Loran, and I'm still grateful to you for sending some very helpful, inspiring information at a particularly downtime in my life -- which thankfully has passed. I hold good thoughts for you and send lots of love and thanks!

Really good advice. Mental health is the person's emotional well-being or mental balance to realize the person's abilities, capability to cope and productivity in making contributions to the community. By avoiding extra burden on oneself by rejecting surplus load of work or by taking out time to meet friends may help one in reducing stress level.

We should keep our body mentally as well as physically fit and therefore for that we need to keep some points in mind to keep our body better. As such when our mind would be healthy then everything would be good.

Mental health problems can affect anyone, regardless of age, race, gender or social background. Without care and treatment, mental health problems can have a serious affect on the individual.
