Big boys and their big toys

Friday morning, March 5, 2010,  has been officially declared Tractor Day for the last few months.  My husband, bless his weary bones, has complained that our little Kubota was not quite strong enough to keep up with our snow removal needs.  With no power steering, it was hard on Gary's neck and shoulders.  It became time to upgrade the tractor as soon as my Honda Accord was paid off, March 4, 2010.  We wasted no time making the exchange.  Obviously from the picture above, it was another snowy morning.  Come hell or snowstorm, though, we were going to get a new tractor.

My husband didn't think I was showing enough enthusiasm about our new purchase.  In a valiant effort to show my astonishing level of enthusiasm, I bought balloons and a model truck pulling a model tractor to celebrate Tractor Day.  One would think this was more than enough proof-- alas, to no avail, he questioned my attitude!  Men.

To continue this fascinating tale, we drove to Heber, Utah to Valley Kubota, where the nearest dealer is located.  135 miles one way to trade in our little old tractor for a big new shiny tractor.

Happy face!

The old tractor was unloaded and the new tractor was loaded,
barely fitting on the flatbed trailer.

Fortunately the storm broke and the roads were clear for the ride home.

As soon as we got home the big boy was on his big toy checking out the power steering and all the bells and whistles.  Did you know that you can buy a tractor with cruise control?  We didn't get it but really, who knew?  Tractor envy anyone?

That's the latest from my little corner of the world.  See what happening the world over at My World Tuesday.

I think your festive touch was quite appropriate - difficult to know what more to do to celebrate a tractor's arrival. Perhaps there's something somewhere on the internet about tractor etiquette.

Sounds like a grand adventure! Enjoy the new tractor. One way to celebrate would be to get together a collection of country songs that feature tractors.

Will you be sending out tractor announcements to friends and family with details such as birth weight and length? I personally think it would be pretty rude not to... a clear violation of the above mentioned tractor etiquette.

Oh, Loran! This is a priceless post!! And like Tess, I too, am wondering if you'll be sending out tractor announcements with all the details! I think it's absolutely necessary!! What a giggle I got out of this one!! Have a great week -- you, Gary and the new tractor!

Cruise control--only a man would think of that for a tractor! Happy Tractor Day!

Does this mean your husband will want another snow storm so he can put his new tractor through its paces?
Thank you for your birthday wishes and Happy Tractor Day to you and your husband!

Happy Tractor Days and sending announcements is a 'give-in'...lol

The balloons and a model truck very nice touch.. My question is, are you allowed on the tractor? I hope so more fun than a ride at the fair LOL

Nice tractor, for now. You know they make them enclosed now with satellite radio and a heater. Maybe in a few years?

Your purchase at the toy store sure brought the biggest smile to that little boy's face. Aren't you glad you went after all?
Mine has been petitioning for a new one with power steering for a while, I'm still resisting since I'm the finace minister for this little farm, ha!

Thank goodness my Husband didn't know about this purchase. He LOVES his John Deere! He may have come to UT to "help" getting the new one home. Now I suppose your Hubby is praying for more snow, too. If so, keep it there!
