It ain't spring yet in this neck of the woods

Last week I hired a strong young man to come shovel our porch roof.  The north side of the house doesn't get much sun.  After months of accumulation it was time to clear off the roof before the weight of all the snow brought it down.  This big chunk of snow makes an interesting sculpture in the yard.

Just a few feet away is this monstrous icicle!  We have heating tape in the corner of the roof so the snow slowly drips off to the ground.  The first year we lived in the house a huge slab of ice slid off and peeled back the steel roof!

The only sign of spring around here is the longer days!

Fortunately in other parts of the world there are signs of spring.  Go visit My World Tuesday to see them because they ain't here.

Now that's gotta be the biggest icicle I've ever seen. Truly impressive!

Great photo! Feels like spring, despite 2' of snow on the ground.

March is cruel. At least at first it looks warmer because of the longer days but it isn't.

That is incredible!! It reminds me of one of our winter's in Montana when we had soooooo much snow and wind that there was literally path on one side of the barn where we kept our horses. I took them out of the barn to stretch their legs a bit while I cleaned out the stalls. All of a sudden I heard this noise on the roof. I went outside to find two horses that had walked up that "path" and they were checking out the roof!! I won't even bother telling you how big a problem we had getting them down!! We did and safely, but we never left them on their own when it snowed again.

Hope you have a great week, Loran! Stay warm!

You've shown me entirely too much snow and ice for March. I'm glad the days are getting -- that hopefully means better things are yet to come!

That's an impressive chunk of ice. When we built our cabin we had to build it to a 220# snow load. That required two 2x12s nailed together! That was fun to lift into place.
There is no one there in the winter to shovel off the snow.

That's a huge icicle, Loran and massive slabs of ice in your garden. Cool, inexpensive garden sculptures. May it become warmer for you soon. (((Hugs))) Jo

Cool photos! We have an impressive icicle, but it unfortunately dropped down and is hanging from the electric cord that is part of the heat tape system of the roof. I sure hope the roofers come out and fix it soon!

You still have some serious ice and snow!
