Now, where exactly is Bhutan?

The Royal Kingdom of Bhutan, the Land of the Thunder Dragon, is in the Himalayan foothills, between India and China.

We flew from Kathmandu to Paro, Bhutan on April 7. We flew right by Mt. Everest which was unfortunately the only time we ever got to see it on our trip. (Yes, this is a picture of that famous peak from the airplane.)

The elevation in Paro is 7780' so when we landed it was refreshingly cool after the heat of Nepal and the air was deliciously clean. The feel of the country was more calm and quiet. Somehow, oddly enough, it felt like coming home.
