Don't stick your head in the sand

Bird seed works just as well.

Yesterday was the first beautiful day we have had in what seems like eternity but maybe it was only a month or so.  Who can remember?  I took out my camera with a zoom lens and a tripod to take bird pictures.  I plunked down a chair and set it all up.  Seeing the beautiful bird pictures that MyWorld and SkyWatch bloggers have posted has been inspiring.  So, there I was all set up, patiently waiting and no birds.  I realized there was no seed in the feeders which might have explained why the birds weren't there.  I filled up those babies and in came the birds.  I set my camera for sunny f16 just like the book told me to do and snapped away.  Most of my pictures were very disappointing.  I went back out and tried some different settings.  Still not much luck.  In total frustration I gave up and went inside.  I swear pictures come out better when I don't try so hard.  Maybe I'll just stick my head in the bird seed.

For some of those inspiring pictures by people who know how to use their camera equipment, check out MyWorldTuesday.  Any birders who want to leave helpful hints, please do.  Really.  Please.

But still it is a great shot.
Some times it happens to me as well, try hard and no good photo, just snap and there is the great snap.
Thanks for sharing have a great week.

What a fun photo - I love how they have their heads stuck so far into the feeder!

I think that's a great photo, with the birds all hiding their heads in the feeder.
I'm no help with hints. A 4X zoom just isn't any good for bird photos. Must get a better camera.

this is a great capture...love how their little heads are swallowed up by the feeder ^..^
i am working on perfecting my bird shots...i shoot from inside the house with a zoom...some times they come out ok (in my opinion) and other times so-so.
thanks for sharing with us.

Great shot. I love this. Don't know a thing about birds, though!

It's a great shot. I just figure it I take enough pictures a few will come out well. It's a lot cheaper with digital.

How cute and funny - your seed seems to be a hit!

Do not hide your head. I always have problems with birds, but only have a P&S. It's a good capture.

What a funny blog write. The birds came alright! You problematize too much with your good camera. I can't complain much with my humble digicam which is no longer working so I'm going back to the basic: disposable camera. Cheap and easy to use! lol.

Dear me, don't be so hard on your self, this picture sure was a hit. I couldn't help laughing when this post got up on my screen. I really appreciate pictures like this. We can find them in the heap of pictures we are about to discard. Sometimes one have to zoom in to find the story. Thank you for showing yhis!

Haha - they're not even aware that you are snapping them. Great picture!

I don't see what's wrong with your photo! It's great!! All birds busy eating from the feeder make such a wonderful sight! Thanks for your visit! Have a great week!

Allthough I have a tripod, to date I have photographed everything hand held. You are quite right, so often the spontaneous picture turns out to be the best. Nice shot anyway.

LOL what's wrong with it?! A great timed shot and I have never seen a birdfeeder like that before!
