Fiery sun

On Janie's blog today she posted a picture of fireweed growing out the ashes of the Neola fire. Two years ago we were worried that the fire could move our way, so much so that we evacuated our llamas. I loaded scrapbooks and some other important things into our camper just in case we had to leave. Fortunately it came nowhere close to our house, but most unfortunately, a friend of mine lost her dad in the fire. This is a picture of the sun setting through a smoky haze. Sometimes there is beauty even in the midst of tragedy.

There IS beauty. I always see that in fires because they do so much with sunrises and sunsets. (Your capture is terrific of that.) But I've never known anyone affected by the tragedy of it. That would be just horrible. (And is why I won't live on the other side of the mountain in my area.)

That is gorgeous Loran ---but like you said, it's bittersweet. I hope the fires stay FAR away from you all. Fires are just so scary.

Stay safe.
Hugs,
Betsy

Great picture. Sad Story. My Father was in the US Forest Service before he retired. Dry summers he was gone for months. We always worried about him while he was gone.

The smokey haze does create some gorgeous skies -- you almost feel guilty enjoying the lovely colors. This is really pretty!

The photo is spectacular, and the smoke usually helps bring more color. The loss of life is very sad. Fire can be very scary.

Beautiful sun , yet a sad story. Where my daughter lives they have been on fire watch most of the summer. MB

We were very fortunate here on the coast to avoid fires, but the BC interior was really hard hit. Some of their smoke even made it over our way. Our forests and closed to many things and we have a fire ban going to help. I invite you to come see my "coming home" sunset. - Margy

Smoke in the air does make for great sunsets, and natural fires clear the deep woods for wildflowers and grass. Such a shame about the deaths in the Neola fire. At least it didn't come all the way to Dry Fork and cause more losses there.

In Ohio we don't need smoke to have haze. Nice picture

You're right ... there can be beauty even in the midst of disaster and tragedy. Living in Southern California I'm familiar with the horror of wildfires and pray that you're safe.
