A momentary diversion from Alaska

On the morning of the 4th of July I headed to the Flume trail.  It's only five minutes away from my house.  The water, melted snow,  is running off the mountains.  It will disappear in the Dry Fork sinks soon and reappear next year.

Brogan came with me and whined every time I stopped too long to take a picture.  That's what he does.

Although this is the bark of a fallen tree, it looks like a beautiful piece of art.

This could well be the biggest lupine bush I have ever seen.

Here's a close up of the flowers.

The Indian paintbrush is blooming as well.

Scarlet gilia trumpets, "Summer has finally arrived!"

The sun was shining in the morning, but a cold wind blew in a rainstorm later in the day and the temperatures really dropped for awhile.

The trail winds along the bottom of some magnificent rock formations.

There are lots of rocks on the trail too.  My walking buddy tripped last week and injured her foot.  It can be a little treacherous for us "old folks" but we hike the trail as often as we can for exercise and talk therapy.

Wouldn't you?

And that's My World in Utah.

I wish I would be there to, seems great, and, I wish I had a dog like yours, been one of my favourites for long but needs some space. I hope that one day I will have one

I must say you are living in what looks like the western side of paradise. All the pictures are great and I feel absolutely sorry for the dog. Is he old and has arthritis or something?

Oh, yes! I would, too! What a gorgeous place! And your photos are terrific as always. Love the ones of the water! Brogan looks as though you might be trying his patience! The flowers are exquisite! Enjoy your week, Loran!

It's truly beautiful where you live. I think when the growing season is short you tend to appreciate the wildflowers more than people who live in warmer climes. It amazes me that the snow is still melting at the higher elevations. Does summer always arrive this late?

I love the rugged rocks!

You certainly live in some beautiful country. I love the white birch and the fallen bark 'does' look like art. Love your faithful companion., so you do not walk alone, neither of you.

Hi Loran, What a neat hiking trail you have so close to your home. What a gorgeous hike!!!! I know what you mean when you talk about walking on rocks... I have a hard time when we are hiking when we come to a huge patch of rocks... Not easy on the ankles and legs!!!!!

So---Dry Fork will be dry again soon???? We have seen some waterfalls named Dry Falls which are anything BUT dry... Wonder how they got their names????

Looks like Brogan enjoyed the hike also--even though he didn't want Mama to stop and take pictures. ha

Beautiful rock formations ---and the flowers along your path are gorgeous...

Thanks for taking us on your hike with you.
Hugs,
Betsy

Just beautiful, Loren! It was 32 degrees here during the night (I pity the folks with record breaking highs)! I love your Scarlet Gilia. Brogan seems like a good walking companion except he'd always be whining at me!

Such a great place for a walk close to home. Everybody walks at their own pace, even Brogan.

That is such a gorgeous trail. I've got some awesome trails near me too, but not 5 minutes away! That's so cool.

Beautiful pics of the wildflowers. Funny that Brogan is impatient with the camera.

I didn't know there were such things as lupin bushes.
Brogan reacts the same way as my teens when I stop to take a photo!
