Moose you stare at me like that?

There are lots of critters around our house but critters we don't see very often are moose. Once there was a young bull who greeted me at the entrance to the Flume Trail, but that was several years ago and definitely pre-blog obsession. Anyway, we didn't see as many as usual but we did see a few in the Big Horns.

If you look closely at this Mama Moose, you can see her baby behind her. At first she was grazing calmly, but her ears perked up when she saw me. I went back to the truck after that. Moose are very large, can move very fast and are sometimes aggressive, especially with a baby.

Oh my goodness, so cute!
Don't get too close though. I hear that the moose is the wild animal that does damage to humans more than any other. Not bear, not mountain lion. Love seeing this!

How very awesome to see moose and with a baby no less. Smart move to get back in the car once she noticed you. They are huge. Have only seen on cow at Yellowstone, also with a calf. Two tourons (thats tourist and moron) were circling around on each side of her and she was stomping and snorting.

Hey Loran, I "moose" see one of those animals someday!!!!!! I'm sure --like the black bears--they'll do whatever needed in order to protect their babies!!!

Hugs,
Betsy

I didn't know that they could be such a dark color! I thought they were all shades of brown

Great shot, it is so dark. I saw a few last summer and was impressed with their size.

What a giant moose! They look darker than our elks here in Sweden, which have a lighter coat (like Sahara, the barb horse in Africa). This one looks almost blackish. Beautiful creatures! I don't know how I'd feel if I met one within very short distance, I've only seen them from afar...

Now there's a sight! I've never seen a live moose (perhaps in a zoo, but I forget) in a live setting. I have a cabin in the Laurentian mountains where we see all kinds of things (some have seen moose) but I would get in my car and drive very fast in the opposite direction if I saw a mommy moose, after I had snapped a few pictures of course! Great photos here and thanks for stopping by my place and leaving me a note.
