A walk from camp to Big Horn Reservoir

Usually I'll drive the four wheeler up to this lake, but my daughter and I were in the mood to walk. It's a steep walk uphill for two miles after a mile of flat walking towards Spear-O. On the way up the horses weren't out, but they were on the way back.

They belong to Spear-O Wigwam Ranch, a place to stay with a staff that will take you horseback riding, fishing, hiking and on pack trips into the wilderness. And it was there that Ernest Hemingway came to complete his book A Farewell to Arms.

"There are two places I love: Africa and Wyoming."--Ernest Hemingway

Maybe our next big trip will be to Africa, I hope so!

Such wonderful and beautiful land. The tipi photos are wonderful too.

The water looks a little rough. But the wildflowers are gorgeous. Lucky horses. Would be fun to stay in a teepee.
I'm for Arica next. But have to wait until March.
Great captures.

I find the idea of staying a teepee strangely alluring, even though I'd normally rather chew my own feet off than go camping. Lol.

I hope so too, Loran!

Beautiful country, beautiful walk, and nice literary allusion as well.

Gorgeous Loran. Our good friends went somewhere out west once and paid big bucks to stay at a ranch --and help with the horses and chores. They wanted the experience of working on a ranch... Don't think I'd PAY to do that!!! ha

Beautiful pictures from the Big Horn area. That was quite a hike you all took.

Hugs,
Betsy

What a wonderful trip! By the water and the horses. I just love the mountains! :) And I love to camp! Especially I love the lavoo (tent) you're showing us here! Very beautiful, and sure I wish I was there :)
